Think Your Way to Wellness

1095252_yogaHappy New Year Everyone!! Sorry I have been missing for a couple of weeks but I am back and stronger than ever!

I hope you enjoy this article.

Have you ever noticed identical twins and how they may seem identical in appearance their attitudes differ?  I always wondered about it so I decided to dig a little deeper.

Although genetics may play a big role, it is the actual individual’s attitude toward heath that can determine their vibrant well-being or their constant suffering.

For more than a century, doctors of chiropractic have encouraged patients to adopt new ways of thinking about health..this outlook is called a ‘wellness attitude’.

What do I mean by ‘wellness attitude’? Quite simply a ‘wellness attitude’ focuses on prevention, instead of making symptoms with medication.  Wellness oriented individuals do not wait to get ill, instead they will try everything to prevent it.  They take a holistic approach to disease prevention which includes nutrition, exercise and reduction of stress.

For some individuals this shift comes naturally, but for others learning a novel approach to health take years and may provoke a sense of discomfort.  Despite the process, however, one thing is certain: adopting a wellness attitude is always worthwhile.

First thing to think about is prevention.  Do you wait for your teeth to fall out before visiting a dentist?  Do you wait for your car to run out of gas before filling it up?  Do you put off an eye exam until you can no longer read a book or magazine? If you answered, ‘no’ to these questions, you are already on your way to adopting a wellness attitude.  Although many will not think of the spine a very important element to your health; it truly is.  The spinal cord is an extension of the brain that innervates all the organs in your body.  If the spine is compromised, your health will in turn be compromised.  Just as your teeth are important, your spine is very important and should also be evaluated regularly.

Adopting a wellness attitude means pledging to make health your first priority.  Making your health your top priority means considering the consequences of all decisions regarding your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.  It is important to acknowledge the interconnections between your actions and your health.

For example, before accepting a new project at work, make a list of the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’, focusing solely on how this decision will affect your health.  Increased work hours may detract from time spent exercising or nurturing your spiritual well-being with meditation and prayer.  The sense of accomplishing a new work project may fill you with optimism, but then again the heightened stress may wreak havoc on your well being.

So..with all that said.  Let’s may this New Year different from all the rest.  Instead of making resolutions that will more than likely only last 30 days…make your health a priority and adopt a ‘wellness attitude‘.

Until next time,
