With the state of the economy you may find it difficult to eat healthy foods while on a budget.
Despite the economy below are some tips that will help you eat healthy on a budget.
Remove Junk Food
The best way to avoid having junk food in the house is to go shopping alone. Doing the shopping on your own is the easiest way to shop, since children and spouse are usually the ones requesting the junk food. Shopping alone will prevent this, and ensure that you only buy the foods you need.
Drink Water or Milk Instead of Soft Drinks
You don’t have to cut out soft drinks entirely, just limit to sporting events or when out to dinner. Be sure to purchase the smaller size to save money, but in all honesty soft drinks are loaded with chemicals and sugars that our body does not need. Children and even adults need milk or milk products on a daily basis. Milk will also help you get strong and provides calcium for healthy bones and healthy teeth.
Purchase Fruits in Quantity
When they are in season, buy fruits in quantity and freeze any extras. You can buy several pounds this way, and freeze extras to have them when the fruit goes out of season. Wash the fruit well, remove any spoiled pieces, dry thoroughly, then freeze in plastic zipper bags.
Purchase Meats and Beans
The best sources of protein are meats and beans. Although lean meat is more expensive than meats with a lot of fat, you can find meat on sale and freeze for future use. Canned beans are a great deal as well, as they give you protein at a great price.
Use Beans As a Substitute
A smart choice is to use beans as a substitute for meat on a frequent occasions. There are several varieties, so you can prepare them in a crock pot, so when you return home they are ready to consume. Beans are fairly inexpensive and the dried variety is less expensive. The USDA recommends eating beans at least 4 times per week. If you experience gas after eating beans you should try washing them, covering them with water, bringing the water to a boil, then draining it off and refilling the pot. Experiment with beans and you will see the benefits.
Eat More Fish
If you live in a coastal area or an area where fish easily accessible, make that an integral part of your diet. You can catch them from the lakes or rivers, saving money in the process.
Try Peanut Butter
Peanut butter is great for those on a budget as it’s popular with almost everyone. You can use it for sandwiches instead of eating hot dogs. It does need to be refrigerated, and bigger jars can last weeks.
Eat More Foods With Higher Water Content
Filling up with foods that have a high content of water is a wise idea. Watermelon, salads, and even sugar free gelatin are all great examples. The best part is that you will be eating healthy without a lot of cost.
Eating healthy is always something you can’t go wrong with. You can eat healthy for just a few bucks, which makes it perfect for those on a budget. It is possible to have the lifestyle and health you’ve always wanted on a limited budget.

Another side benefit of adding beans to the menu that I’ve found is that it stops hunger pangs for several hours after. I add some black beans to salsa at lunch and don’t feel hungry until dinner.
Careful with peanut butter. Watch those labels for hydrogenated oils and evil trans fats. They can be loaded!

Eating food containing more water is really good for health. Here you given really nice tips.
Just found your blog– nice post!
What an interesting and helpful article. I try to drink as much water as I can, however, I admit that I get tired of it and want something with more taste. I found that if I put just a small capful of lemon juice or other fruit juice in the water, it gives it a zing and a flavor without the additives that the other ‘flavored water’ drinks have.
